Roman Archaeological Site of Malafaia
PortugalLocated in the parish of Várzea, the Malafaia site is one of the most significant Roman-era discoveries in the Arouca Geopark. Dating back to the second half of the 1st century, this small rural settlement remained active for nearly 500 years, offering valuable insight into daily life and agricultural practices during Roman times.
To enhance the visitor experience, an interpretive structure has been created on-site, helping bring this ancient farmstead to life. Malafaia is also part of the Iter Hominis trail, within the Vale do Arda and Western Zone route, a perfect stop for those exploring the historical layers of the region.
