INHERT: Hiking Heritage Trails

The Klostertal Museum Association is participating in an EU-funded project on hiking trails and cultural heritage.

International projects and collaborations have been an integral part of the Klostertal Museum Association’s work for many years. Various funding programs play a role in this, most recently the Creative Europe program. This program is funding the Hiking Heritage Trails (INHERIT) project, in which partner institutions from Portugal, Serbia, and Slovenia are participating. The first meeting took place recently in Belgrade, where the Klostertal Museum Association was represented by Kathrin Novis and Christof Thöny. The fundamental goal of the project is to protect cultural heritage in mountain regions and connect it with cultural hiking trails. At the regional level, cooperation with relevant associations is being sought.

More than 20 years ago, the historic Arlberg Trail was the focus of a project in the Klostertal valley funded by the European Union’s Leader program. We are now building on the foundations laid at that time, for example in the form of archaeological investigations. The cart track over the Arlberg Pass, which is known to have existed as early as the 14th century, is just as much a focus as the Arlberg Railway, which the association has been involved with for many years. The association reports on its ongoing project work on social media and on its website.
